BURMA SHAVE....!

For those who never saw any of the Burma Shave signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930s and '40s.

Before there were interstates, when everyone drove the old two-lane roads, Burma Shave signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers' fields.

They were small red signs with white letters.  Five signs, about 100 feet apart, each containing one line of a 4-line couplet . . . and the obligatory 5th sign advertising Burma Shave, a popular shaving cream.

DON'T STICK YOUR ELBOW TRAINS DON'T WANDER THE GRASS IS GREEN,
OUT SO FAR, ALL OVER THE MAP, THE GRASS HAS RIZZ,
IT MAY GO HOME 'CUZ NOBODY SITS WHERE LAST YEAR'S
IN ANOTHER CAR. IN THE ENGINEER'S LAP. CARELESS DRIVER IS.
Burma Shave Burma Shave Burma Shave

SHE KISSED THE HAIRBRUSH DON'T LOSE YOU HEAD DROVE TOO LONG
BY MISTAKE, TO GAIN A MINUTE. DRIVER SNOOZING,
SHE THOUGHT IT WAS YOU NEED YOUR HEAD WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
HER HUSBAND, JAKE. YOUR BRAINS ARE IN IT. IS NOT AMUSING.
Burma Shave Burma Shave Burma Shave

ANOTHER SPEEDER CAUTIOUS RIDER SPEED WAS HIGH
LET'S REHEARSE, TO HER RECKLESS DEAR, WEATHER WAS NOT,
ALL TOGETHER LET'S HAVE LESS BULL TIRES WERE THIN
GOOD MORNING, NURSE. AND A LITTLE MORE STEER. X MARKS THE SPOT.
Burma Shave Burma Shave Burma Shave

THE MIDNIGHT RIDE AROUND THE CURVE NO MATTER THE PRICE
OF PAUL FOR BEER, LICKETY-SPLIT, NO MATTER HOW NEW,
LED TO A WARMER BEAUTIFUL CAR THE BEST SAFETY DEVICE
HEMISPHERE. WASN'T IT? IN THE CAR IS YOU.
Burma Shave Burma Shave Burma Shave

THE GUY WHO DRIVES AT INTERSECTIONS BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL
A CAR WIDE OPEN LOOK EACH WAY, EYES ON THE ROAD,
IS NOT THINKIN', A HARP SOUNDS NICE THAT'S THE SKILLFUL
HE'S JUST HOPIN'. BUT IT'S HARD TO PLAY. DRIVER'S CODE.
Burma Shave Burma Shave Burma Shave

THE ONE WHO DRIVES CAR IN DITCH PASSING SCHOOL ZONE
WHEN HE'S BEEN DRINKING, DRIVER IN TREE, TAKE IT SLOW,
DEPENDS ON YOU THE MOON WAS FULL LET OUR LITTLE
TO DO HIS THINKING. AND SO WAS HE. SHAVERS GROW.
Burma Shave Burma Shave Burma Shave

Do these bring back any old memories?
If not, you're merely a child.
If they do, then you're old as dirt . . . Like us!

Have a great day!
